Utah Education Association Annual Dues for 2006-2007

Annual dues for the Association are divided into four subcategories and are paid via monthly payroll deductions of $45-$55. Association dues support the many programs which advance the Association's mission to support public education, quality teaching, and advocating for the rights and interests of members. Dues for employees teaching half-time or less are reduced to reflect the member's proportion of employment.

Local Dues

Local dues vary and are determined by each local association. These dues are based on the size and specific programs of the local affiliate and provide professional training for leaders, bargaining support, communications with members and the community, and many other programs.

UniServ Dues

The state is divided into 10 regions called 'UniServs,' which means "unified services." UniServ dues are collected as a portion of state dues (47 percent) and fund staff and office expenses, and unique regional programs. Each UniServ unit has one or more full-time professional staff members specially trained in protecting members' jobs and employment rights. UniServ Directors provide assistance to locals in professional issues, grievance representation, bargaining, political organizing, and legislative advocacy which impact school budgets and public education. Annual UniServ dues for 2006-2007 are approximately $130-about $11 per month.

State Dues

State dues are determined by the governing body of the UEA, the House of Delegates, which is comprised of UEA members throughout the state. State dues fund UEA's professional and support staff, legal counsel, and programs delivered by the state-level organization. State dues also fund professional conferences and workshops, member communications, public and community relations, publications, research, and other member benefits. State dues for 2005-2006 are approximately $151-or about $12.60 per month.

National Dues

NEA dues fund the Association's strategic focus, "improving the quality of teaching, increasing student achievement and making schools safer, better places to learn," and other NEA programs and goals. NEA advocates for adequate funding for school programs, lobbies Congress to improve federal legislation and provide full funding for mandated programs such as No Child Left Behind. NEA provides financial assistance and expertise to state and local associations to develop strategies to enhance student learning. A portion of each member's NEA dues returns to the UniServ to support that program. Additional NEA dues come back to the state through grants, joint projects, and specially funded programs. NEA dues for 2006-2007 are $145-about $12 per month.

UEA represents over 18,000 educators in forty-one districts and vocational centers. Equal payments through monthly payroll deductions ensure that you support your professional organization which promotes the profession, strengthens public schools, and protects the professional rights of educators.
